SUMMARY:Kent Hop Picking Festival at Neely-Soames Homestead
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Neely-Soames Homestead Demonstration Garden\, 5311 S.\n237th Place in Kent\, on Saturday\, September 7\, from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.\nVisitors can see the Neely Hop Garden and Hop Trail on a self-guided tour and\npick golden hops for personal use. There will be presentations about the\nhistory of hop growing in Kent\, growing hops and an introduction to home\nbrewing. The event will culminate with harvesting and bagging the hops from\nthe garden.\nDonations of homegrown hops* can be dropped off during the event at Neely-\nSoames Homestead between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. or they can be brought\ndirectly to Airways Brewery located at 8611 S 212th Street in Kent. Donated\nhops will support the Master Gardener Foundation of King County.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for the WSU Extension Master Gardener Plant Sale and Talks at the Bellevue Botanical Garden. Our popular plant sale returns in time for you to stock up and learn something new\, all while enjoying the beauty of the botanical garden. Our theme is “Sustainable Gardening for Life.” The plant sale and talks are on Sunday\, September 8\, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.\, at the Bellevue Botanical Garden\, 12001 Main Street\, Bellevue.  \n\nPlant Sale\nLocal vendors\, including Chimacum Woods\, Lee Farm and Nursery\, and Celestial Gardens from our previous sales at the Center for Urban Horticulture\, will offer plants for sale. Eastside Fuchsia Society will also be there. The Extension Master Gardeners will staff a plant answer clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to answer your plant questions. \nTalks\nA trio of  speakers will present talks on our theme of sustainable gardening for life. Extension Master Gardeners can earn Continuing Education credit by attending the talks. Registration is required and the fee of $37 will allow you to hear all three speakers. Onsite registration will be available for $40 the day of the sale\, depending on seating availability. Funds raised by this Master Gardener Plant Sale support the activities of the Master Gardener Program in King County. \n10:00 a.m. “Trees and a Warming Climate: Strategies for Management and Adaptation.” presented by Allen Taylor. Allen will discuss the local impacts of climate change as well as what to expect in the future. He will then look at the many ways that we can help our trees adapt to these new conditions\, including planting new\, climate-adapted trees. \n11:30 a.m. “Integrated Pest Management for the Home Garden\,” presented by Adam Romero. Adam’s topic is Integrated Pest Management as not just a single action\, but a series of practices taken throughout the year to reduce pest populations.  Attendees will learn how to evaluate\, monitor\, and respond to pest situations in ways that emphasize the least toxic options. \n1:00 p.m. “Climate Change in Our Gardens\,” presented by Jessi Bloom. In this presentation Jessi addresses the challenges gardeners face in gardening with our changing climate and offers simple solutions of creating ecological gardens. \nCome and enjoy the day with fellow WSU Extension Master Gardeners and other gardening enthusiasts! A short-term holding area will be available for your purchases. There is limited parking at the Bellevue Botanical Garden. Overflow parking will be available nearby.\nWSU Extension programs and events are open to the public and available to all without discrimination.\n\nVendors \n\nCelestial Dream Garden: Nursery and landscape company offering a wide variety of plants.\nChimacum Woods: Known for its broad selection of rhododendrons\, many grown from seed. DESCRIPTION:The Master Gardener Foundation of King County holds two regular meetings: recurring Board Meetings and an Annual Meeting. Board meetings are regularly scheduled from 7:00-8:30PM the second Thursday of the month\, generally via teleconference. Foundation members may attend any Board meeting as observers or by invitation. Contact Board President\, president@mgfkc.org\, if you would like to attend. Agendas and minutes of the Board meetings are found in the Foundation Board archives. \n\n\n\nSpecial meetings may be called at any time by the President or by request of the membership. Notice of special meetings will be sent to the membership via e-mail not less than 10 days prior to the date of the meeting. [MGFKC By-Laws 5.5\, January 2013; Article VII\, Meetings] \n\n\n\nThe Board of Directors shall hold regular meetings at such times and places as the Board decides. Board meeting times and locations are regularly published in The Connection\, the Newsletter of the Master Gardeners of King County and the Master Gardener Foundation of King County. Recent issues may be found under Resources / Newsletters. \n\n\n\nNOTE: Most meetings are conducted via Zoom.  In person Board meetings are usually held in the Extension Master Gardener program office at the UW Center for Urban Horticulture\, 3501 NE 41st St.\, Seattle. During the summer months\, the Board may move its regularly scheduled meetings to various Master Gardener gardens in order to become familiar with these locations.
