Cool Plants, Hot Topics

September 8 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join us for the WSU Extension Master Gardener Plant Sale and Talks at the Bellevue Botanical Garden. Our popular plant sale returns in time for you to stock up and learn something new, all while enjoying the beauty of the botanical garden. Our theme is “Sustainable Gardening for Life.” The plant sale and talks are on Sunday, September 8, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Bellevue Botanical Garden, 12001 Main Street, Bellevue.

Plant Sale
Local vendors, including Chimacum Woods, Lee Farm and Nursery, and Celestial Gardens from our previous sales at the Center for Urban Horticulture, will offer plants for sale. Eastside Fuchsia Society will also be there. The Extension Master Gardeners will staff a plant answer clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to answer your plant questions.

Talks
A trio of  speakers will present talks on our theme of sustainable gardening for life. Extension Master Gardeners can earn Continuing Education credit by attending the talks. Registration is required and the fee of $37 will allow you to hear all three speakers. Onsite registration will be available for $40 the day of the sale, depending on seating availability. Funds raised by this Master Gardener Plant Sale support the activities of the Master Gardener Program in King County.

10:00 a.m. “Trees and a Warming Climate: Strategies for Management and Adaptation.” presented by Allen Taylor. Allen will discuss the local impacts of climate change as well as what to expect in the future. He will then look at the many ways that we can help our trees adapt to these new conditions, including planting new, climate-adapted trees.

11:30 a.m. “Integrated Pest Management for the Home Garden,” presented by Adam Romero. Adam’s topic is Integrated Pest Management as not just a single action, but a series of practices taken throughout the year to reduce pest populations.  Attendees will learn how to evaluate, monitor, and respond to pest situations in ways that emphasize the least toxic options.

1:00 p.m. “Climate Change in Our Gardens,” presented by Jessi Bloom. In this presentation Jessi addresses the challenges gardeners face in gardening with our changing climate and offers simple solutions of creating ecological gardens.

Come and enjoy the day with fellow WSU Extension Master Gardeners and other gardening enthusiasts! A short-term holding area will be available for your purchases. There is limited parking at the Bellevue Botanical Garden. Overflow parking will be available nearby.
WSU Extension programs and events are open to the public and available to all without discrimination.
